Careers advice talks at school were always tricky for me. 'So what profession are you hoping to pursue, Bea?' I'd be asked. And while friends trotted out the usual responses: law, accountancy, medicine and the arts, I felt I couldn't be completely candid about what I wanted to be 'when I grew up'. The reason for my reticence was that all I ever wanted to be was a full-time wife, mother and homemaker.
