What if Stranger Things had aired in the decade it's set in?
One social media user, @dima.rudych, recently took to Instagram Threads to explore that idea by imagining who would have played the iconic characters if the show had truly been created in the mid-80s.
After pairing characters with stars like Sigourney Weaver and River Phoenix, the result feels like flipping through an alternate-universe casting call fueled by nostalgia, pop culture and a clear love for the series.

Winona Ryder as Eleven

Eleven is played by actress Millie Bobby Brown. She is the telekinetic girl at the center of Stranger Things, drawing viewers into Hawkins' strange and dangerous world.
In @dima.rudych's reimagining, she's paired with a young Winona Ryder, who in the '80s starred in Beetlejuice and Lucas. Ryder's mix of offbeat charm, intensity and quirky energy mirrors Eleven perfectly.
