WNBA, Players Association agree to six-week CBA extension

The WNBA and its players' union extended their collective bargaining agreement for a second time, with the deadline to reach a settlement pushed back by six weeks.

Both sides had until 11:59 ET on Sunday, Nov. 30 to reach a deal, or the collective bargaining agreement would have expired.

"The WNBA and WNBPA have agreed to extend the current collective bargaining agreement through January 9, 2026, with either party having the option to terminate the extension with 48 hours' advance notice. The WNBA and WNBPA are continuing to work toward a new agreement," the league said in a statement.

The original expiration of the league's CBA was Oct. 31, and the league quickly realized that no agreement would be reached by that date; thus, the first extension was put into place.

Had a lockout occurred, no league business would have commenced, including the expansion draft, which hasn't been set, as two new teams, the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo, launch their inaugural seasons in 2026.

The league presented a formal proposal last week, stating that max salaries would exceed $1 million and that the minimum salary would be around $220,000. The WNBA salary cap was $1.5 million, and players have been vocal about wanting a bigger piece of the pie, especially since the league's new 11-year media rights deal, valued at approximately $2.2 billion, begins in 2026.

Last season, the minimum salary was $66,079, while the supermax was worth $249,244. Only five WNBA players made more than $225,000 last season. (Kelsey Mitchell, $269,244; Arike Ogunbowale $249,032; Jewell Loyd, $249,032; Kahleah Copper, $248,134; and Gabby Williams, $225,000)

League MVP A'ja Wilson made $200,000 in base salary in 2025.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Luka Doncic scored 20 of his 34 points in the first quarter and the Los Angeles Lakers raced to their seventh straight victory, 133-121 over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night.

Doncic also had 12 rebounds and seven assists to help the Lakers win for the 13th time in 15 games. Austin Reaves added 33 points and eight assists, Deandre Ayton had 22 points and 12 rebounds and Rui Hachimura scored 14 points.

LeBron James sau out to rest a sore left foot. He made his season debut Nov. 18 and played in four games after recovering from sciatica.

Saddiq Bey had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Bryce McGowens added 23 points for the Pelicans. They have lost 11 of 12.

New Orleans was short-handed with Zion Williamson (hamstring) and Trey Murphy III (elbow) watching from the bench.

The Lakers dominated the first half, leading 46-27 after one quarter and 77-57 at the half. It was the most points the Lakers had scored in any quarter this season and tied for the fifth most in an opening quarter in franchise history. The 77 first-half points matched the Lakers' most in a half this season.

The Pelicans found their offense in the third quarter, shooting 62.5% from the floor in the period and pulling to 100-89.

Pelicans: Host Minnesota on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota created some late-game heroics. He found Deebo Samuel on 3rd-and-14 for a 38-yard gain. He connected with Terry McLaurin to bring the game to within one point. With nothing to lose, the Commanders decided to go for two and the win. Mariota dropped back to pass and his attempt to Jeremy McNichols was blocked by Broncos pass rusher Nik Bonitto.

The Broncos won the game, 27-26.

Nix finished 29-of-45 for 321 yards and a touchdown pass. Harvey had 35 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Harvey and Bonito's overtime heroics were just two of a handful of great plays made during the game.

Nix did his best to pull out all the stops. He helped put Denver ahead before halftime when he threw a touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton as he was falling to the ground. He avoided the rush and his calf was about to hit the ground before he fired the ball to Sutton in the end zone.

Broncos' Bo Nix Throws Td Pass While Falling To Ground In Stunning Play

Commanders wide receiver Treylon Burks likely said, "Watch this," before he made his sensation play. Burks received a pass from Mariota in the end zone. He, somehow, made a one-handed catch for a crucial go-ahead touchdown.

It was Burks' second career touchdown catch and it was one that the Commanders really needed.

Mariota was trying to keep the drive alive with under four minutes to go in the game. He found tight end Zach Ertz open in the middle of the field. The ball was thrown high and Ertz was able to grab the pass and bring it down.

But just as he was going to secure the catch, Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton knocked the ball loose and the pass was incomplete. Washington punted the ball away.

Singleton was playing in his first game since he underwent testicular cancer surgery three weeks ago. It was a big play, but it came just a few minutes too early as Mariota would lead the Commanders down the field to tie the game.

Mariota played as well as one could play in a hard-fought game. He was 28-of-50 with 294 passing yards and two touchdown passes. He also had 55 yards on the ground.

Ertz finished with 10 catches for 106 yards. McLaurin had seven catches for 96 yards.

Denver improved to 10-2 with the win and have won nine straight games. Washington fell to 3-9.

By and large, it was a productive weekend for U.S. World Cup hopefuls scattered across Europe, the United States and Mexico. Four scored, four assisted and two helped their Canadian side advance to MLS Cup for the first time.

For four of them, in particular, it was also a weirdly delightful weekend.

Let's begin with someone rarely discussed but a contender for a roster spot next summer: Jonathan Klinsmann, whose father, Jurgen, the former German superstar, used to coach the U.S. men's national team.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper, who grew up in Southern California, is employed by Cesena in Italian Serie B. A former U.S. youth international, he has received a few senior call-ups, including the November camp, but has yet to earn his first cap.

On Friday, he pulled off a bizarro hat trick of sorts in Italy: a penalty kick save, a clean sheet and an assist on the match's only goal, against Modena. With a near-perfect 9.6 rating from Fotmob, he was the player of the match.

In Cesena's pursuit of promotion to Serie A — I Cavallucci Marini, or the Seahorses, are fourth, four points from the top — Klinsmann has started all 14 matches and conceded 14 goals while recording three shutouts.

As for Klinsmann's standing with Mauricio Pochettino and the U.S. program, the goalkeeping situation is unsettled heading into 2026.

With 12 consecutive starts, New York City FC's Matt Freese is the clear No. 1 on the depth chart. Though he wasn't called up in November, New England's Matt Turner would seem to have the No. 2 spot, because of his experience (52 caps, 2022 World Cup starter). Klinsmann, Columbus' Patrick Schulte (three caps), Chicago's Chris Brady (none), Cincinnati's Roman Celentano (none) and perhaps Colorado's Zack Steffen (30, but just one the past three years) are also in the mix.

All the MLS keepers, however, have entered the offseason and will not have any competitive matches until February, leaving Klinsmann with a prime opportunity to make his case before Pochettino narrows his options for the reported friendlies in Atlanta against Portugal and Belgium in late March.

It's hard to envision someone without any international appearances making the World Cup squad, and as it stands, Freese seems certain to start both March matches — the last friendlies before Pochettino names his team in late May. The competition for at least one, and maybe two, of the three slots, though, seems far from over.

While Klinsmann prevented goals over the weekend, Tyler Adams scored one from some 45 yards. After collecting a pass in his own end and accelerating across the halfway line, the central midfielder alertly spotted Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs well forward and drove a shot over the leaping keeper for his second Premier League goal in his past four outings.

In France's Ligue 1, Olympique Marseille was on the verge of stepping into first place when mid-table Toulouse scored a stoppage-time equalizer — off a throw-in by U.S. defender Mark McKenzie. His long toss set up Santiago Hidalgo's header for a 2-2 draw.

Another unusual situation unfolded in the Netherlands, where Ricardo Pepi was actually in PSV Eindhoven's lineup. The striker took full advantage of his first start in more than two months, assisting on Joey Veerman's goal in the sixth minute and scoring with an angled overhead kick in the 24th during a 3-0 home victory over Volendam.

Elsewhere, four players were involved in knockout competitions in both MLS and Mexico's Liga MX.

Brian White, on the fringes of the U.S. striker pool, scored twice from close range in the first half as the Vancouver Whitecaps rolled into their first MLS Cup with a 3-1 away victory against San Diego FC. Midfielder Sebastian Berhalter also played 90 minutes for the Whitecaps, who will visit Lionel Messi's Inter Miami for the trophy Saturday. Midfielder Luca de la Torre played the second half for San Diego.

Mexico

U.S. winger Alex Zendejas scored in the 30th minute of Club América's 2-1 victory over visiting Monterrey in the second leg of the quarterfinals. But Monterrey's stoppage-time goal provided a 3-2 aggregate triumph.

A week after scoring the winner in the derby against Inter Milan, Christian Pulisic sat out first-place AC Milan's 1-0 victory over Lazio with a thigh injury. It was not considered serious and, as a precaution, he watched from the stands. He might return Thursday for the rematch against Lazio in Coppa Italia.

Four days after scoring in the Champions League, Weston McKennie went the distance as Juventus came from behind to defeat Cagliari, 2-1. Yunus Musah did not receive any playing time in Atalanta's 2-0 victory over Fiorentina.

England

Chris Richards played 90 in Crystal Palace's 2-1 home loss to Manchester United, while Brendan Aaronson entered in the 90th of Leeds' 3-2 loss at Manchester City.

Antonee Robinson — who hasn't been in uniform in almost two months and hasn't played for the national team in more than a year — remains sidelined for Fulham with a knee ailment, but there might be light at the end of the long tunnel.

"He is getting good feelings but is doing individual work — nice to see him on the pitch," Manager Marco Silva said. "He is getting better and more confident — not just about his knees but his mindset. Soon we can have more news, but right now we have no timescale."

Patrick Agyemang scored his third Championship goal and played 90 minutes for Derby County, but his second-minute strike was canceled out in a 2-1 loss at Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough's Aidan Morris, a usual starter, sat out with an injury.

Josh Sargent (88 minutes) had an assist in Norwich City's 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers but extended his scoring drought to 15 games for club and country.

Injured striker Haji Wright missed his third consecutive match for Championship leader Coventry City — and he might have a hard time getting his job back from his replacement, Ellis Simms, who has five goals in that span.

Germany

If you thought Gio Reyna's U.S. performances in November might elevate his role at Mönchengladbach, think again. The 23-year-old attacker entered in the 73rd minute of a 0-0 draw with RB Leipzig. Since returning from international duty, he has logged 35 minutes in two appearances.

Right back Joe Scally, Reyna's teammate for club and country, made his fourth consecutive start. Central midfielder Malik Tillman played 74 minutes in Bayer Leverkusen's 2-1 loss at Borussia Dortmund. In Bavaria, defensive midfielder James Sands and second-to-last St. Pauli were no match for undefeated leader Bayern Munich, 3-1.

Defender Noahkai Banks and Augsburg conceded three first-half goals in a 3-0 loss at Heidenheim. In the second division, left wing John Tolkin went 74 minutes as Holstein Kiel fell 1-0 at home to surging Hertha Berlin.

France

Winger Tim Weah went the distance for Marseille in that aforementioned 2-2 home draw with Toulouse, while Folarin Balogun and Tanner Tessmann departed their respective matches in the closing moments with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Balogun and Monaco upset visiting Paris Saint-Germain 1-0, but for the first time in his past six starts, the U.S. striker did not score. Typically a defensive midfielder, Tessmann made his second consecutive start on the backline as Olympique Lyonnais routed Nantes 3-0. Could he provide cover in the back for the national team, as well?

Others

While Pepi made a rare start for PSV Eindhoven, right back Sergiño Dest was in the lineup for the 13th time in 14 matches for the Eredivisie leaders, who are 12-1-1 with a plus-27 goal differential. … Three days after returning from a two-month absence, central midfielder Johnny Cardoso was affixed to the bench for Atletico Madrid's 2-0 win over Oviedo. … Scottish power Celtic continues to show trust in center back Auston Trusty, who has played every minute of his past seven appearances across all club competitions. On Sunday, second-place Celtic defeated Hibernian 2-1 for its fourth consecutive Premiership victory.

For a generation of young millennials, Ron Howard's *How the Grinch Stole Christmas* (2000) has become as important a holiday tradition as Dr. Seuss' original children's book and 1966 animated special. This live-action adaptation expands the story of the titular curmudgeonly creature who hopes to ruin Christmas for the happy citizens of Whoville, giving us a glimpse into his tragic childhood and adding new characters.

Jim Carrey, wearing layer upon layer of green makeup and prosthetics, lends his signature goofy star persona to the lead role, while character actors like Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin, and Molly Shannon fulfill their Whoville roles with aplomb. The film also made a star of Taylor Momsen as Cindy Lou Who, who memorably sings the twinkly ballad "Where Are You Christmas?".

With the film now celebrating its 25th anniversary, we're taking a look at what the cast has been up to in the 21st century, from major career shifts to award-winning work.**

Jim Carrey (The Grinch)

Jim Carrey plays the eponymous Grinch, a fiendish Whoville outlaw who declares war on the festive season.

Carrey told *** *in 2000 that getting into costume was quite an ordeal. "I was having a lot of trouble with the Grinch suit, so they brought a guy in who actually teaches people how to handle torture, and he gave me a couple of tips. You just forget [the pain]."

After making his reputation in sketch comedy, Carrey broke big in 1994 with three hits — *Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Dumb and Dumber, *and *The Mask* — that made him a bona fide star. The rubber-faced comedian went on to play the Riddler in *Batman Forever* (1995) and starred in *The Cable Guy *(1996) and *Liar Liar *(1997) before making his first dramatic detours. His performances in *The Truman Show* (1998) and the Andy Kaufman biopic *Man on the Moon* (1999) earned him back-to-back Golden Globes.

The Canadian actor continued to flex his dramatic muscles in *The Majestic *(2001) and the romantic sci-fi head-trip *Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind *(2004). But he never left comedy behind, headlining *Bruce Almighty *(2003), *Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events* (2004), and *Yes Man* (2008). Carrey returned to television with a role as a grieving father in *Kidding* and plays Dr. Robotnik in the ongoing *Sonic the Hedgehog* cinematic franchise.

Carrey was married to Melissa Womer from 1987 to 1995. They have a daughter, Jane. The actor later wed his *Dumb and Dumber *costar Lauren Holly in 1996. She filed for divorce less than a year later.

Taylor Momsen (Cindy Lou Who)

Taylor Momsen plays Cindy Lou Who, a curious child who wants to extend Christmas greetings to the Grinch.

Momsen was 7 years old when she brought Cindy Lou to life, but it took a toll on her middle-school years. "*The Grinch* changed my life in a multitude of ways — one of them being I was made fun of relentlessly," she admitted on *Gossip Girl* costar Penn Badgley's podcast. "Every time I would start a new school or go somewhere else, I don't even think the kids knew my name. I was just Grinch Girl...I got used to it, but it was alienating."

After a few more children's movies and a supporting part in Gus Van Sant's *Paranoid Park *(2007), the "Grinch Girl" joined *Gossip Girl* as Jenny Humphrey.

While the show was a hit, Momsen increasingly turned her attention to music, forming the band the Pretty Reckless in 2009. Two years later, she devoted herself full-time to music, leaving *Gossip Girl* in the middle of the fourth season. The band has four studio albums and seven chart-topping singles under its belt. In 2025, Momsen performed with Soundgarden at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, where the surviving members were inducted — *Grinch* costar Jim Carrey introduced the set.

Jeffrey Tambor (Mayor Augustus May Who)

Jeffrey Tambor is the corrupt Mayor of Whoville and the Grinch's lifelong tormenter, Augustus May Who, who sets his hatred of Christmas in motion.

The long-time character actor is well known as talk-show sidekick Hank Kingsley on *The Larry Sanders Show*. Not content with one iconic sitcom role, he added another as crooked family patriarch George Bluth (and occasionally his twin brother, Oscar) on *Arrested Development*.

His most decorated performance came in the lead role of Amazon's *Transparent* as a transgender woman, taking home two Emmys for his work. However, he was later fired from *Transparent* following allegations of sexual misconduct and didn't appear in the show's final season.

As for film, Tambor has appeared in the likes of *There's Something About Mary *(1998), *Hellboy *(2004), *The Hangover *(2009), and *The Death of Stalin *(2017).

Tambor married Kasia Ostlun in 2001. The pair share four children: Gabriel, Eve, and twins Hugo and Eli. He also has daughters from previous relationships.

Christine Baranski (Martha May Whovier)

Christine Baranski plays Martha May Whovier, the Who with the most perfect Christmas decorations in Whoville.

A veteran stage actress, Baranski broke into television with an Emmy-winning performance as Cybill Shepherd's sarcastic best friend on the sitcom *Cybill*. She played ruthless litigator Diane Lockhart on *The Good Wife* and headlined the spinoff, *The Good Fight*. She also had a prominent recurring role as Leonard's mother on *The Big Bang Theory*. Baranski starred in the second season of *Nine Perfect Strangers* and currently has a scene-stealing supporting role as Agnes von Rhijn on the HBO period drama *The Gilded Age.*

In addition to two Tony wins, she's amassed 16 Emmy nominations throughout her small-screen career. The Broadway vet has also become a regular in big-screen musicals, appearing in *Chicago* (2002), *Mamma Mia!* (2008), *Into the Woods* (2014), and *Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again* (2018).

Baranski was married to Matthew Cowles from 1983 until his death in 2014. They have two daughters, Isabel and Lily.

Bill Irwin plays Lou Lou Who, a postal worker and the protective father of Cindy Lou.

Originally a professional clown and stage actor, Irwin won a Tony for *Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? *in 2005. But parents and children may know him as Mr. Noodle from *Sesame Street*'s "Elmo's World" segments.

He's become a familiar face across film and television, appearing as Anne Hathaway's father in *Rachel Getting Married* (2008), Matthew McConaughey's wisecracking tactical robot in *Interstellar *(2014), and Mariska Hargitay's therapist on *Law & Order: Special Victims Unit*. He was also a regular on FX's surreal comic-book series *Legion* as a mutant scientist who shares a body with a fellow mutant played by Amber Midthunder.

Irwin's marriage to Kimi Okada lasted from 1977 to 1982. He later married Martha Roth in 1990. The couple adopted a son, Santos.

Molly Shannon is Betty Lou Who, Cindy Lou's concerned mother.

Shannon made her name on *Saturday Night Live* and was shooting *The Grinch* simultaneously with her work on the show. It wasn't easy, as she told EW in 2022: "I would get back on the plane Sunday night from New York City to be back in L.A. for a 4 a.m. wake-up because it took hours to put on that prosthetic makeup. It was really hard, but the fact that I pulled that off — shooting both those giant jobs at once — is a miracle."

The actress parlayed her best-known *SNL *character, anxious high schooler Mary Katherine Gallagher, into a feature film, *Superstar* (1999). She's been a regular on the comedy circuit ever since, with TV roles on *Will & Grace*, *Sex and the City*, and *The White Lotus* as well as big-screen appearances in *Wet Hot American Summer* (2001) and *Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby *(2006), among others. The actress has even subverted expectations with her performances in Sofia Coppola's *Marie Antoinette *(2006) and as Emily Dickinson in *Wild Nights With Emily *(2018).

Her television career has continued, starring on *The Other Two* and appearing in season 4 of *Only Murders in the Building *as a clueless Hollywood executive*.* She also released her memoir, *Hello, Molly!*, in 2022.

The film's narration is performed by none other than Sir Anthony Hopkins.

A legendary actor of stage and film, Hopkins has been commanding the screen since the late-1960s, from *The Lion in Winter *(1968) to the war epic *A Bridge Too Far* (1977) and David Lynch's *The Elephant Man* (1980).

His career hit another level with *The Silence of the Lambs* (1991), as he turned suave sociopath Hannibal Lecter into an all-time pop culture icon. He won his first Oscar for the role and later earned nominations for *The Remains of the Day* (1993), *Nixon* (1995), and *Amistad* (1997) — not to mention his turn as Van Helsing in *Bram Stoker's Dracula *(1992) and an aging Zorro in *The Mask of Zorro *(1998).

While popping up as Marvel's Odin in the *Thor* franchise and as the theme park creator on HBO's heady sci-fi drama *Westworld*, the Welsh actor has continued to add to his award shelf. He nabbed an Oscar nom for playing Pope Benedict in *The Two Popes* (2019) before winning his second gold statuette for the Alzheimer's drama *The Father *(2020).

Hopkins has been married three times: to Petronella Barker (1966–1972), Jennifer Lynton (1973–2002), and Stella Arroyave since 2003. He has a daughter, Abigail, from his first marriage.

Clint Howard (Bris Who)

Clint Howard is Bris, the eager and attentive assistant of Whoville's esteemed Mayor.

Howard began acting when he was 2 years old on *The Andy Griffith Show* and has racked up hundreds of screen credits. He's perhaps best known for roles in movies directed by his brother, Ron Howard, including *The Grinch*. Their collaborations include *Cocoon* (1985), *Parenthood* (1989), *Apollo 13* (1995), and *Solo: A Star Wars Story *(2018). And yes, we're counting Clint guest-starring in two episodes of *Arrested Development*, a series narrated by Ron.

The popular character actor, who received a Daytime Emmy nomination for his guest role on *The Bold and the Beautiful* in 2025, also has a long history with the *Star Trek* franchise, dating back to an episode of the original series when he was 7 years old. He's since appeared on *Deep Space Nine*, *Enterprise*, *Discovery*, and *Strange New Worlds*.

Howard was briefly married to Ann Marie Lynch in the late 1980s and later to Melanie Sorich from 1995 to 2018. In 2020, he wed Kat Cruz. The couple has a daughter, Rafa'ella.

Mindy Sterling (Clair Nella Who)

Mindy Sterling plays Clair Nella Who, one of the Grinch's adoptive mothers who tries to raise him to fit in with Whoville's other citizens.

The character actress is best remembered as the villainous Frau Farbissina, one of Dr. Evil's most loyal lackeys, in the Austin Powers franchise. She has played several recurring roles on television, including a bitter English teacher on Nickelodeon's *iCarly* and a snarky neighbor on *Desperate Housewives*. She had a six-season run on *The Goldbergs* as Linda Schwartz and earned two Emmy nominations for her roles on the short-form series *Con Man* and *Secs & Execs*.

Sterling has also maintained a voice acting career, playing characters in *Monsters University* (2013) and the *Despicable Me* series, among many others. She returned to her Who days with a minor role in the computer-animated version of *The Grinch* (2018).

Sterling has a son, Max, with her ex-husband, Brian Gadson.
