- Gwyneth Paltrow isn't sure how Pepper Potts has been keeping busy since *Avengers: Endgame*.

- The actress says, "I haven't seen any of" the Marvel movies for "story context for what she's doing."

- Paltrow also isn't sure if Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark is alive or dead: "I don't know. I can't keep track."

Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't know what Pepper Potts has been doing these days.

The *Shakespeare in Love* star shares her thoughts on her Marvel Cinematic Universe character's whereabouts in a recent conversation with host Gerrad Hall on* The Awardist* podcast.

"To be honest, I think I would've had to see all the *Avengers* movies to get some story context for what she's doing," Paltrow said of her character, who was first introduced in 2008's *Iron Man* and last appeared in 2019's *Avengers: Endgame*. "I haven't seen any of them, so I don't know."

After working as a personal assistant for Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and subsequently becoming the CEO of his company Stark Industries, Pepper began a romantic relationship with her former boss at the end of *Iron Man 2*. They remained a couple in all of Paltrow's subsequent MCU appearances — *The Avengers*, *Iron Man 3*, *Spider-Man: Homecoming*, *Avengers: Infinity War*, and *Avengers: Endgame* — and welcomed a daughter together before Tony died at the conclusion of that last film.

(She also got Extremis superpowers in *Iron Man 3* and her own high-tech suit of armor in *Endgame*, though neither of those threads has been addressed in subsequent MCU projects.)

Paltrow considers how Pepper has lived on in Tony's absence. "She's been raising a kid and doing spreadsheets," she says. "Maybe she's on some boards and doing some advisory work, and maybe she's dating."

That last point prompts some confusion. "Or did they bring Robert back to life?" she asks of her former costar. "I don't know. I can't keep track."

Downey is returning to the MCU in 2026's *Avengers: Doomsday*, though he's set to play the villainous Victor Von Doom rather than the Tony Stark we know and love. It's possible that Downey's Doom will be a multiversal variant of Tony from an alternate reality, but the character's background has yet to be disclosed by the actor or the filmmakers. And there's no indication that the original Tony will return in any capacity. All that is to say: we can't keep track, either.

Paltrow can currently be seen in Josh Safdie's *Marty Supreme*, a ping-pong dramedy that also stars Timothée Chalamet, Odessa A'zion, Kevin O'Leary, Tyler Okonma (a.k.a. Tyler, the Creator), Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher. The film marks Paltrow's first film performance since *Endgame*, and her first non-MCU film since 2015's *Mortdecai*.

A Disney World cast member was injured after a massive prop dislodged from its track during the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! show.

The moment was captured and uploaded to TikTok on Dec. 30. During the stunt show, which takes place at Disney's Hollywood Studios, a worker stepped in front of a 400-lb prop boulder that came rolling toward the audience.

The video shows the cast member pushing the rubber boulder to stop it from reaching the seated visitors. He is seen falling backward after stopping the ball and has a bloody gash on his head when he stands back up.

A Disney World representative confirmed that the cast member was injured after a prop moved off its track.

"We're focused on supporting our cast member, who is recovering," a spokesperson said in an email. "Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened."

The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! features Indy, played by a stunt actor, cracking his whip, dodging spikes, and escaping that iconic boulder. Actors prepare for "dozens of contingencies" because every performance may play out differently, according to the Disney Parks blog.

"The performers form a backup plan for just about every possible scenario — and even learn how to improvise while staying in character," the blog continued.

While this likely wasn't a scenario anyone was expecting, spectators at the event could be heard expressing their gratitude toward the cast member in videos uploaded to social media.

"That guy literally saved our lives," the man behind the camera of one viral TikTok said.

Martha Stewart learned a valuable lesson this year: never wear open-toed shoes while sitting courtside.

The lifestyle mogul attended game one of the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks in May. She wore open-toed sandals while sitting close to the action and instantly regretted it after Knicks guard Jalen Brunson "came crashing down" on her.

"I have the Brunson fracture," she told Jimmy Fallon on a recent episode of *The Tonight Show.* "He stepped on my big toe on this foot."

The accident happened with five minutes left in the game, but the match went into overtime, preventing Stewart from getting up sooner. She said she "immediately" knew her toe was broken. Stewart joked that she could only wear open-toed shoes now that she hurt her foot.

When Brunson fell on her, Stewart said he wasn't sweating and was "cool as a cucumber" despite playing in the high-stakes finals. The *Entertaining *author said the athlete wasn't aware that he had injured her, but she later discussed the incident with his parents.

"I told his parents," she said. "I met his parents. ... And they were laughing. They thought it was so funny. All I got out of it was a signed basketball for my grandchild."

The Knicks went on to lose the Eastern Conference Finals to the Pacers in game six. Despite their last interaction, Stewart remarked that Brunson was "doing really well" this season.

On the Friday afternoon of Dec. 19, *Stranger Things* creators Matt and Ross Duffer gathered at the Netflix-owned Paris Theatre in New York City with cast members who were in town for press appearances.

Among those in attendance were Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley), Jamie Campbell Bower (Vecna/Henry Creel), and Cara Buono (Karen Wheeler).

This was the first time most of them, with the exception of the Duffers, saw the series finale, titled "The Rightside Up," the 2-hour-plus conclusion to the runaway streaming sensation that began nearly 10 years ago in 2016. In a note posted to Instagram more than a week later, Ross Duffer described this moment as "an emotional and cathartic experience for all of us."

"While we're finished telling this story, we are family now," he added, "forever."

David Harbour as Jim Hopper and Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven in Stranger Things: Season 5.

Hopper (David Harbour) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) in the 'Stranger Things' series finale.

Everyone involved in *Stranger Things* continue to wrap their heads around what life will look like for them moving forward now that the show that changed all of their lives is over. Millie Bobby Brown, for one, started filming her role of Eleven at the age of...well, 11. As the series finale arrives on Netflix this New Year's Eve, the actress is 21 years old and the mother to an adopted baby girl with husband Jake Bongiovi. Her fans around the globe have watched that journey in real time from season to season over the years.

"It really has to be in my face for me to be like, 'Oh my God! It's happening,'" Brown tells **. "A year in advance, I wasn't thinking about it because I was like, 'We still have a year to go.' But then on the last day [of filming] it really hit me. Actually, the night before it really hit me."

She sits next to her costar, Schnapp, as she says all this — one of her closest friends whom she chose as her child's godfather. For him, the most emotional moment was "saying bye to everyone." He says, "Knowing that I won't ever see them again in the same space was really tough. I think the day after [filming ended] was just devastating for me."

If you ask any of the cast, most will pinpoint the table-read as one of the more unexpected cathartic moments. They expected to be in tears on their last day of filming the show, but the read-through, with all the cast gathered together, became an emotionally charged day.

"I actually had to drive home, and I had to wait half an hour in my car to really calm down before I drove," Brown says.

Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson in Stranger Things: Season 5.

Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson in the 'Stranger Things' series finale.

McLaughlin, who started the show at 13 and is now 24, felt it much earlier than most back in season 4. That, he says, marked "our last time looking forward to a new season. In that moment, I was like, 'Whoa. This thing that's been a part of my life for so long is gonna have an ending to it.'"

Matarazzo, 23, couldn't tell you the specific day on set of the final season when this reality set in, but he does remember sitting in the hair and makeup trailer, chatting with the first assistant director. "He goes, 'Hey, by the way, nine weeks! ... Isn't that crazy?' and then left," the actor behind Dustin remembers. "That's on your calendar and it's not that far away."

He also points to Christmas 2024. "As holiday plans were being made with my family, that's also when we were all prepping to leave the show," he continues. "So hearing about what we were gonna be doing for Christmas that year was kind of somber because only 10 days before that was our wrap day."

The show has irrevocably changed the lives of the principal cast. Sink, who wasn't convinced fans would take to her character Max when she first filmed that new kid role at the age of 14 for season 2, now has a Taylor Swift short film, a Tony nomination (for Broadway's *John Proctor Is the Villain*), and a Marvel movie (next year's *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*) under her belt at 23.

Wolfhard, also 23, can now call himself a movie director, having made the horror-comedy *Hell of a Summer*. He admits he was "in complete denial" about *Stranger Things* ending until the last shot on the last day of filming. However, he acknowledges, "It feels like it's the end, but it also doesn't because it's the end of *that* time."

"It's the end of that specific life circumstance that we all had when we were in a routine where we saw each other, but also sometimes it doesn't," he continues. "There are pieces of it that don't feel like they're over just because we're all still a family. We still see each other all the time. So there are parts of it that are always gonna last forever."

"Within our off-seasons," Sink says, "everyone's gone off and dipped their toes in other things and made a name for themselves outside of *Stranger Things*, even though this will always tie us together and be what brought us to where we are. But when I think about it, it's interesting 'cause I've been [acting] my whole life but in different capacities. I think of *Stranger Things* as the thing that catapulted me into the public eye, I guess, but as far as working, that's always been a part of my life.... The end of the series, yeah, it's bittersweet, but I'm just excited to see what comes next and grow more and fail and succeed. We'll see."

All episodes of *Stranger Things* are available to stream on Netflix.**

When audiences see him sloshed as CNN ushers in the new year, alongside his cohost and real-life friend Andy Cohen, it marks the one time of year that the *Anderson Cooper 360* anchor imbibes, Cooper confirmed to Stephen Colbert on a recent episode of *The Late Show*.

Cohen had plenty to say when he was asked what it was like being with Cooper for that.

"Well, let me say this," Cohen answered. "Around 10:45 on New Year's Eve every year, I become the straight man of our broadcast, okay? And I am driving the ship of CNN starting at 10:45."

While Cooper interjected that he remained "fully in control," Cohen didn't waver.

"It's the truth," the *Watch What Happens Live *star said. "I hear the slur in his voice. I know his voice so well. And last year, I really did get him a little drunk on New Year's Eve."

The friends, whose families have vacationed together, spent the after-hours of last year's Times Square festivities at a party hosted by actress Patti LuPone.**

After Cooper said the soiree was "fantastic" and LuPone herself was "lovely," Cohen argued that Cooper wouldn't know.

"You remember none of it," Cohen told the journalist. "You were so drunk!"

Cooper conceded that he "may have been drunk," because he drinks alcohol so rarely.

But when he and Cohen get together for their broadcast, they take shots at the top of every hour.

Cooper joked that, during the last 30 minutes of their broadcast, he's "looking online to see in what ways has he screwed us over" and damaged the network.

Before Cohen and Cooper departed *The Late Show*, Colbert took a shot with his guests, which Cohen noted that he does every Wednesday night with guests on his Bravo series.

Cooper noted that, for him, "it's a blur" after the first one.

This year — their ninth consecutive one cohosting — in addition to doing shots, Cooper and Cohen will welcome guests including Colbert, musical acts Brandy and Monica, Florence + The Machine, Brandi Carlile, and Patti LaBelle, as well as comedians like *The Office* alum B.J. Novak, and *Saturday Night Live* cast member Sarah Sherman.

*New Year's Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen* airs at 8 p.m. ET on CNN and the CNN app.**

**Warning: This article contains spoilers from the *Stranger Things* series finale, "The Rightside Up."**

*Stranger Things* wraps up a 10-year-long story with series finale "The Rightside Up." The 2-hour, 8-minute-long episode reveals some of what creators Matt and Ross Duffer planned since the beginning, as well as the final scene they said they concocted "about six or seven years ago."

Who lives? Who dies? What happens to each of the Hawkins gang? Spoilers, obviously, ensue.

The final battle against Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) is designed like the climax to one of the Hellfire Club's *Dungeons & Dragons* campaigns. Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) dons a makeshift spiked shield, Nancy (Natalia Dyer) carries an automatic rifle, Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) comes packed with a corrosive slingshot, Mike (Finn Wolfhard) gets...well, a flare gun, but that too comes in handy.

Most of the core crew make their way into the Abyss where they prepare to rescue the kidnapped kids and stop the big bad's plan to merge worlds. There's the long foreseen Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown)-versus-Vecna face-off, coupled with a dramatic Godzilla-sized ensemble fight. And people die...or do they? It's not so cut and dry.

The final battle

In the Upside Down, Eleven submerges herself in the tank and enters the Void with Kali (Linnea Berthelsen) and Max (Sadie Sink) telepathically piggybacking off of her. They hack into Vecna's psyche and, thanks to Max, navigate his memories to locate the children in the mindscape.

The others break into the Abyss to find the physical bodies of the missing kids. They soon face a much bigger problem (literally) when Vecna's "Pain Tree" fortress reveals itself to be the Mind Flayer. The tendrils fold out, transforming into the spindly legs of the sharp-toothed leviathan, this time in its flesh-and-bone kaiju form and not the misty monolith we've seen in previous seasons.

'Stranger Things' cast says goodbye to the series after a decade

Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, and Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley in Stranger Things: Season 5.

While Eleven's troupe finds the children, who take refuge in the mindscape cave, her plan hits a major snag. Vecna psychically finds Hopper (David Harbour) and manipulates him to break the tank, cutting off the psychic link for her, Kali, and Max. Eleven is forced to enter the Abyss in person, initiating a fight between her and Vecna, while her friends fight the Mind Flayer.

Will (Noah Schnapp) connects with Vecna's mind and tries to reason with him. Told through memories, we learn that a young Henry Creel was exposed to particles from the Mind Flayer in that Nevada cave from his childhood. The pep talk doesn't hit, and Eleven is forced to impale Vecna on a spike, thereby destroying the Mind Flayer as a result of their connection. However, it's Joyce (Winona Ryder) who delivers the final death blow, taking an axe to Vecna's head.**

Who dies on Stranger Things?

Here comes the question everyone wants to know about, and there's no definitive answer.

Kali definitely dies no matter which way you swing it. The military seemingly guns her down during a confrontation with Hopper and Eleven. (We'll get to the "seemingly" shortly.) Eleven then kills Lieutenant Akers (Alex Breaux) as a reaction to that event, so he, too, is dead.

It also appears on the surface that Eleven dies. When the gang emerges from the Upside Down into Hawkins, Dr. Kay (Linda Hamilton) and her military promptly capture them, but Eleven stays inside the wormhole, allowing herself to be destroyed with it as the detonator takes out the exotic matter and collapses the bridge.

It gets complicated because an ending time jump that takes place 18 months later sees Mike (Finn Wolfhard) weaving a tale about how Kali didn't really die when she was shot by the military. Instead, according to him, she survived and used her powers to create the illusion of Eleven getting wiped out with the collapsing Upside Down. In this scenario, Eleven got away and traveled somewhere safe — someplace with multiple waterfalls, just like the ones Mike fantasized about for them.

Mike and his friends ultimately believe to choose this as the story they believe, but it's not clear.

What happens to the main characters?

The 18-month time jump reveals Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max preparing for their Hawkins High graduation. After playing one final *D&D* game, Mike shares the stories of what happens to their main players.

Max and Lucas are together. They finally get that movie date they dreamed about and settle down in the future. Dustin, who becomes the valedictorian of his graduating class, goes off to college, but he takes regular breaks to have adventures with Steve (Joe Keery). Will, who came out in the penultimate episode, moves to a metropolis and is shown having a conversation with a guy at a bar.

And Mike becomes a professional writer, sharing the stories of his friends to the masses for years to come.

As for the older teens, they've moved on from high school, too. Steve stays in Hawkins to serve as a little-league baseball coach and sex ed teacher. Robin (Maya Hawke) goes to Smith College but comes back for another installment of "Rockin' Robin" radio. Nancy (Natalia Dyer) attended Emerson for a spell but dropped out to join the staff at *The Boston Herald*. Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) attends New York University to become a filmmaker. His current project is an anti-capitalist cannibal movie called *The Consumer*.

They make a deal to meet once a month in Philadelphia at the home of Robin's "weird uncle" to maintain the friendship.

Hopper, meanwhile, finally proposes to Joyce. He also mentions that there's a police chief gig open in Montauk — a nod to the originally planned setting for *Stranger Things*, which was inspired by the real-world Montauk Project conspiracy theories.

"We wanted each of the characters to find happiness but in their own specific ways," Matt Duffer told Tudum. As for Eleven, Ross added, "She lives on in their hearts, whether that's real or not,"**

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's… Henry Cavill wearing Christopher Reeve's original Superman suit.

*Justice League* director Zack Snyder has shared two early test photos of Cavill in the iconic cape and spandex that solidified the actor's run as the Man of the Steel.

"Henry Cavill. The original Superman suit," Snyder captioned an Instagram photo Thursday. "This photo. It was undeniable."

While sharing another, more close-up shot, Snyder added, "With the last image I shared, and this one we showed WB, everyone agreed: Henry Cavill was Superman. That's where the journey began."

This isn't the first time Snyder has offered a glimpse of Cavill in Reeve's original suit. In 2017, the filmmaker posted a behind-the-scenes shot of Cavill in the costume sitting in a makeup chair on set. However, these new photos are more in character and out in the world, showing Cavill in all his Superman glory.

"First test with Henry," Snyder wrote in the caption of the first photo posted to his Vero account in 2017, of which a blurry version emerged online three years prior. "I knew right away he was my Superman."

As Snyder explained during a 2016 interview, "We didn't have the suit made when Henry was auditioning, so he wore the original Christopher Reeve suit. He put it on and when he came out of the trailer, everyone was like, 'Dang, you're Superman!'"

Cavill recalled feeling imposter syndrome in that moment when speaking to * *in 2011. "All I could think was, 'Oh, God, they're going to look at me and go, 'He's not Superman. Not a chance,''" Cavill said. "The actor inside me was going, 'You're not ready! You're not ready!'"

But Snyder revealed that "no one laughed" when Cavill first walked out wearing that suit.

MAN OF STEEL

James Gunn says it was 'terrible' letting go of Henry Cavill ahead of new 'Superman'

Man of Steel 2013

"Other actors put that suit on and it's a joke, even if they're great actors," Snyder added. "Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go, 'Wow. Okay, this is Superman.'"

Reeve played Superman across four films between 1978 and 1987, paving the way for Cavill to debut as the beloved superhero (with his own modernized suit) in 2013's *Man of Steel*. Cavill continued wearing the cape in Snyder's follow-ups *Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice *(2016) and * Justice League *(2017), and also made a cameo in 2022's *Black Adam*.

Despite a promise of more to come as Superman, plans for Cavill to return to the character were scrapped after James Gunn and Peter Safran rebooted the onscreen DC Universe. David Corenswet took over the role, beginning in this year's *Superman*, opposite Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan.

"It was really unfair to him and was a total bummer," Gunn previously said of the way Cavill found out about the recasting.**
