James Patterson is bringing holiday joy to local bookstores.
The Along Came a Spider author, 78, is supporting independent booksellers once again by gifting $500 each to 600 bookstore staffers across American Booksellers Association (ABA) member bookstores, totaling $300,000, through his Holiday Bookstore Bonus Program.
"We are all so grateful for Mr. Patterson's ongoing support of independent booksellers," ABA CEO Allison Hill said in a statement. "His generosity is incredible, and his recognition of booksellers and the valuable role they play in the industry is especially meaningful to us."
Among the recipients this year are Gary at Two Birds Books, Corrie at High Five Books, Riley at Next Chapter Booksellers, Marianna at Penguin Book Shop, Cheryl at Parnassus Books, Liz at Skylark Book Shop, Jayme at Highland Books and hundreds of others with inspiring stories about how much books change lives.

"Jayme is a retired teacher who has channeled her love of reading into the perfect recommendations for customers," Highland Books wrote of their 2025 Bookstore Bonus recipient on Instagram. "Whether it's a middle grade reader looking for the perfect read or an adult looking for their next favorite, Jayme loves helping them find the right book. She keeps our store organized and well-displayed and our store couldn't do it without her! Congratulations Jayme, this is so deserved and we are so lucky to have someone like you on our team. ✨"
Patterson has similarly donated funds to booksellers many times over the last decade and consistently champions the importance of bookstore staffers in every community.
"I've said this before, but I can't say it enough — booksellers save lives," the author said in a statement, per the . "What they do is crucial, especially right now. I'm happy to be able to acknowledge them and their hard work this holiday season."

In November, Patterson also partnered with Bookshop.org to launch the James Patterson and Bookshop.org Prize, a new award that honors debut authors who have published full-length books, originally in English within the United States between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2025.
The grand prize winner will be awarded $15,000, and one runner-up will be awarded $10,000. Both authors will also be featured prominently on Bookshop.org and by other participating indie bookstores.
"James Patterson has been a huge ally of independent bookstores for years, for good reason — he understands how badly we need their enthusiastic work to support reading, authors and community," Bookshop.org founder and CEO Andy Hunter told PEOPLE at the time.
