The New England Patriots were one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 NFL season, and now they are two wins away from reaching the Super Bowl.
For fans in New England, it's been a long seven years since the Patriots' last Super Bowl appearance. For fans outside of New England, the demise of the team after the Bill Belichick-Tom Brady era was a welcome change of pace.
Over the course of 18 seasons, the Patriots appeared in nine Super Bowls. New England won six of those Super Bowls and Brady was game MVP four times. Those six Super Bowl wins tie the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most in NFL history, and the Patriots' 11 Super Bowl appearances are the most of any team.

On Feb. 3, 2019, the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 13-3, in Super Bowl 53 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
It wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing of championship games — it was the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever — but it capped quite a run for the Patriots, who won a third Super Bowl in five seasons.
The game marked Belichick's last NFL playoff win. Two years later, Brady would win another Super Bowl (his seventh), but it came with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
