The Counting Crows took the '90s music scene by storm with their emotional lyrics and soulful tone that stood out amongst many other rock bands at the time. With songs like "Round Here" and "Mr. Jones," the distinctive lead vocals of Adam Duritz were played incessantly on FM radio and CD players at the time. It is no surprise that with their intense popularity, the band reached Grammy-nominated status shortly after releasing their first album, August and Everything After.

Proving their timelessness and multi-generational sounds, the band's latest post on Instagram has hit all the nostalgic notes for fans. On Monday, the band shared a clip of Adam Duritz singing the song "A Long December," wishing "a happy month to all who celebrate."

The recording is from a 2021 recorded appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and features lead singer, Adam Duritz, at the piano in a brown suede jacket and jeans. The singer delivers a heartfelt solo performance of the winter ballad from the band's second album, Recovering the Satellites, released in 1996.

Fans quickly flooded the comment section with memories and personal reactions to the song. Many shared just how the song "A Long December" carried them through challenging times in their lives:

I've turned to this song many times in my grief journey. It is beautiful, and heartbreaking. Thank you for writing it," one emotional response included.

"I really wish I could explain what this song means to me and what it has walked me through in so many Decembers, the month when so much life and death seem to cluster," shared another.

"My all-time favorite song. I still get teary-eyed after all these years. ❤️," was the sentiment shared by another.

Several listeners pointed out how relevant the song's final line, "maybe this year will be better than the last," feels every winter, and that it gives them hope and comfort.

Sharing this 29-year-old song reminded fans of the timelessness that some musical moments can hold for us. The blend of nostalgia, storytelling, and emotional vulnerability was recognized by many as they take on the long December of 2025.
