Nearly 10 years after Stranger Thingswas first released, the series will come to a close on New Year's Eve, and the show's creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, have offered some interesting hints about what could be coming in the finale.

SPOILER—This post includes spoilers from Stranger Things Season 5Volume 2.

Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2, comprising episodes 5, 6 and 7, was released on Christmas Day and was met with mixed reception. Several days later, the penultimate episode in particular has been review bombed, with many negative reviews referencing Will Byers' coming out scene.

Despite the backlash following the release of Volume 2, plenty of excitement and curiosity remain about what the show's finale will hold. Although the Duffer Brothers didn't give away any specific plot points, they did name three characters in particular when discussing questions that will be answered in the final episode of the show.

In an interview with Deadline, Ross Duffer shared, "The goal is to tie up, you know, the remaining loose ends and sort of answering any questions that remain, and there are a few, specifically big ones being with, you know, Henry and his backstory and then Eleven and what all this means for her and Kali."

It's notable that Duffer highlighted Henry Creel/Vecna, Eleven/Jane and Kali in particular, as each character was left with some major question marks hanging in the balance at the end of the penultimate episode. In terms of El's arc, the biggest question is whether she will die.

This question has really always been on the table, but Season 5 Episode 7 intensified the sense that she was in danger, as it seems she's been talked into sacrificing herself by Kali. It's likewise interesting that the Duffers mentioned Kali, but not quite for the same reasons.

Yes, Kali also said she would sacrifice herself, but the larger question fans seem to have at present is what exactly Kali is up to. Some believe that Kali may even be revealed as a villain in the final episode, both because she wants El to sacrifice herself and because she was acting in a way that some viewers found suspicious.

Duffer's reference not only to Henry/Vecna but also to his backstory is particularly attention-grabbing as well, given that this is a burning question on many fans' minds. The canon Stranger Things play, The First Shadow, set up the idea that Henry might be a victim of the Mind Flayer, just as Will once was, rather than a full-fledged autonomous villain.

Thus far, however, the show hasn't dug too much into what Henry's true nature is and whether there's any good left in him. It's possible that the Stranger Things finale will cover all these bases—although, as Ross Duffer admits in the interview with Deadline, even with a two-hour runtime, this is a lot to fit into one episode.
