Amy Schumer is clearing up speculation over her recent 50-pound weight loss.
The comedian stated in a social media post that she didn't undergo the transformation "to look hot, which does feel fun and temporary." Instead, she "did it to survive."
Schumer clarified that she was working to combat the effects of Cushing syndrome.
Amy Schumer's recent wellness journey is not a vanity project.
The comedian and Inside Amy Schumer star posted a video to her official Instagram on Monday depicting a typical day in the life of the Schumer household, which also includes husband Chris Fischer and their son, 6-year-old Gene.
The now-deleted video began with Schumer lazing in her bed, continued on with Gene giving his mom's over 12 million followers a mini house tour, and concluded with Schumer addressing "questions" about her recent weight loss.
Schumer did not lose 50 pounds (itself a clarification, as previous reports indicated it was 30) "to look hot which does feel fun and temporary." Instead, Schumer wrote that she "did it to survive."
"I had a disease that makes your face extremely puffy that can kill you, but the internet caught it, and the disease has cleared," she wrote, referring to her 2024 diagnosis with a condition called Cushing syndrome.
Johns Hopkins Medicine describes Cushing syndrome as a rare hormonal disorder that produces high levels of the hormone cortisol in the body over long periods of time. Also called hypercortisolism, symptoms can include weight gain, especially in the upper body, reddened skin, fatigue, and high blood pressure.
"Sorry for whatever feeling it's giving you that I lost that weight," Schumer continued. "I've had plastic surgery over the years and use [Mounjaro]," a blood sugar medication that can also be used to manage weight. "Sorry to anyone that lets down," she wrote.

Schumer first attracted attention for her weight loss after wiping her Instagram page in November and throwing up a new first post, a carousel of photos of the comedian posing in a red dress around her home.
"I'm feeling good and happy. Deleted my old pics for no reason!" she joked in the caption. The next day, she clarified in a follow-up post that she "didn't delete my old photos because they were pre me losing weight."
"I'm proud of how I've looked always," Schumer explained. "I have been working to be pain free and I finally am. My endometriosis is better. My back is healing. I no longer have Cushing syndrome so my face went back to normal. I am grateful to be strong and healthy especially for my son."
