HBO Max is giving new meaning to the phrase "caught in 4K."
The streamer recently made an exciting new addition to its library: all seven seasons of the acclaimed AMC and Lionsgate Television series *Mad Men*. There's just one problem… Actually, there's many problems. And one of them involves vomit.
Within hours of the '60s-set drama arriving on HBO Max, rewatchers and diehard fans noticed quite a few issues with the show. For one thing, several episodes are listed out of order and are mislabeled as other episodes. Among them is the fan-favorite season 1 episode, "Red in the Face," which sees Don Draper (Jon Hamm) punish a drunk Roger Sterling (John Slattery) by stuffing him full of oysters and then forcing him to walk up 23 flights of stairs. The episode ends with Roger vomiting up his lunch in front of a group of prospective clients.
Not only is the episode mistitled (swapped with episode 6, "Babylon"), there's also a mistake in the big vomit scene. The 4K release includes a very visible *Mad Men* crew member operating a barf machine right behind Slattery, in full view of the camera. There's even a second guy in the shot behind him, offering a hand of support to the puke-hose operator.

A vomit machine is seen behind Robert Morse, Vincent Kartheiser, John Slattery, and Jon Hamm in 'Man Men' season 1, episode 7, 'Red in the Face'.
On social media, fans jumped at the chance to highlight the mistake. "The new 4K transfer of *Mad Men* on HBO somehow does not have any of the post-production edits added in," one fan wrote in a post with over 740,000 views. "Which means you get stuff like this where you can see the crew member manning the puke machine after Roger has too many oysters lmao."
The mistake also became a source of discussion on the *Mad Men* subreddit. "How is a mistake like that even possible?" one fan wondered.
"This is hilarious," commented another. "And the extra hand on the crew member's shoulder is killing me. Like someone else is giving him extra emotional support while he shoots fake vomit from a tube."

A source has since claimed to* The Hollywood Reporter* that Lionsgate delivered the wrong 4K files to HBO Max and is now working to get the streamer the correct files. The outlet additionally reported that as of Tuesday afternoon, the files are in the process of being swapped out.
HBO is no stranger to post-production issues being immortalized by social media.* Game of Thrones *fans (and stars) will never forget the chaos of coffee-gate, when a non-Westerosi coffee cup was spotted in front of Emilia Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen in the final season. The company quietly removed the cup from the episode, but the memory has remained. Similarly, *The Last of Us* viewers once spotted a member of the film crew lingering in the background of a season 1 episode.

Vincent Kartheiser, Rich Sommer, Jon Hamm, Bryan Batt, John Slattery, and Michael Gladis in 'Mad Men' season 1.
That said, these gaffes are certainly not an HBO-specific issue: *Man Men* now joins legions of beloved titles — *Gilmore Girls, Buffy the Vampire Slayer*, and *The Wire *to name a few — that were released in one format and then rereleased in another, only to expose carefully cropped out boom mics, crew members and, yes, vomit machines.

*Mad Men *stars Hamm as slick advertising executive Don Draper and Elisabeth Moss as his protege Peggy as they navigate social change, their personal lives, and the high pressure world of Madison Avenue. The Matthew Weiner-created series won 16 Emmys during its eight-year run, including four consecutive wins for Outstanding Drama. Additional stars include Christina Hendricks, Vincent Kartheiser, January Jones, Rich Sommer, Alison Brie and Kiernan Shipka.
The series is also available to stream on AMC+, but not in 4K (so don't expect a cameo from everyone's favorite vomit tech). The restored version is available on HBO Max.
