A wedding dress unboxing has gone viral for its surprise emotional reaction.
Monica Mason, 52, married James Mason, 52, nearly 30 years ago on June 1, 1996, in Nitro, West Virginia. Since then, the couple has welcomed three daughters — Emma Mason, 20, and twins Hannah and Grace, 21. Meanwhile, Monica's wedding dress has sat untouched all these decades, preserved in box stored away.

Because Hannah is tying the knot this summer, Monica has been contemplating "turning her dress into a gown for all her girls to wear on their wedding day," Emma tells PEOPLE. On Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2025, the sisters were discussing Hannah's upcoming nuptials when they asked their mother if they could see her wedding dress because they "never had."
While gathered together in between the kitchen and living room area of their West Virginia home, Monica laid her wedding dress box on the ground and pulled out her sparkling long-sleeved gown and its matching veiled crown. In unison, the sisters shouted, "Oh, my God!" but they weren't the only ones taken aback by the dress.
"Oh, God! He's gonna cry!" one of the daughters exclaimed as the group spotted James silently watching them from across the room. He was visibly emotional with a pout lip and teary eyes.
The moment was especially meaningful because James "rarely ever gets emotional."

"I can seriously only remember one other time seeing him cry," Emma tells PEOPLE, adding, "It made all of us start crying after seeing him so emotional. It was such a heartwarming moment."
Speaking to Emma about what was going through his mind when he saw his wife with her wedding dress after so many years, he told her, "I was thinking about seeing her coming down the aisle, and, 'I get her for the rest of my life?' "
Emma shared the sweet clip on TikTok that day, writing in an onscreen text overlay, "When my mom unboxes her wedding dress for the first time in 30 years and our macho military man father starts tearing up." She added in the caption, "Please I can't this is too good."
