Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast has welcomed a steady stream of A-list guests since it first debuted in March 2025, but there's one iconic name who likely won't be receiving an invitation to drop by anytime soon.

During the Tuesday, Dec. 23 episode of Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Poehler admitted, somewhat jokingly but also sincerely, that she's far too intimidated to invite Martha Stewart onto the show. The confession came in the midst of Poehler's interview of her former Saturday Night Live cast mate, Ana Gasteyer, as the pair reflected on years of impersonating Stewart on the sketch comedy series.

"Martha, I'm not going to invite you on the show because I'm too scared, but please listen and know that you're something else," said Poehler.

During the early aughts, Poehler and Gasteyer both impersonated the renowned television personality and entrepreneur on SNL, Poehler during rehearsals and Gasteyer during the live show. Poehler made it clear that her reluctance comes entirely from admiration, not dislike. Both comedians described themselves as "obsessed" with Stewart, crediting her meticulous on-camera presence as part of what makes her such a challenge to parody.

"When we're doing Martha, what are we doing with her lips? And how do we talk?" Poehler asked during the interview. Gasteyer responded that Stewart is "very aware of how the camera is going to look on her," a detail most definitely informed their impressions. "It's a barely moving mouth," Poehler quipped.

The December episode wasn't the first time Stewart came up on Good Hang. Earlier this year, during an episode featuring comedian Cole Escola, Poehler and her guest joked about Stewart's larger-than-life presence and cultural influence.

"I want to serve cold mashed potatoes to dying Martha Stewart," Escola joked. "That's my dream dinner party. Her last bite. I would get to say, like, you know I served Martha her last bite."

Poehler followed up with a deadpan punchline of her own, imagining Stewart's response as a simple, "Mmm, cold."

As for Stewart, the playful jokes don't bother her a bit. In an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this year, she told Fallon, "I love it. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. You might as well be imitated."
