The former Prince Andrew has voluntarily surrendered his gun license.
The 65-year-old son of the late Queen Elizabeth reportedly turned over his firearms and shotgun certificate to the Metropolitan Police following a visit last month, according to the BBC, The Telegraph and other outlets.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed to PEOPLE that, on Wed., Nov. 19, 2025, they "attended an address in Windsor to request that a man in his 60s voluntarily surrender his firearms and shotgun certificate. The certificate was surrendered, and [police] will not be commenting any further at this stage."
PEOPLE has reached out to Andrew for comment.
Like many members of the royal family, Andrew is known to take part in shooting for sport, and he took part in clay pigeon shooting at charity tournaments.
According to the BBC, surrendering the certificate doesn't mean giving up access to firearms, but he can only use or transport them if supervised.

Buckingham Palace announced in October that Andrew was being stripped of all his royal titles, including prince, amid renewed interest in his relationship with Epstein.

Andrew became officially involved in legal proceedings against Epstein in 2015, when he was named in a lawsuit against Epstein filed by noted survivor Virginia Giuffre. Giuffre alleged that she was sex trafficked to the former prince when she was 17 and had three sexual encounters with him. Andrew has continuously denied any wrongdoing in the case.
In January 2022, Queen Elizabeth stripped her second son of his military titles and patronages after he attempted to have Giuffre's sexual assault lawsuit against him dismissed. The following month, he settled with Giuffre out of court for an undisclosed sum. She died by suicide on April 24, 2025.

After Andrew told journalist Emily Maitlis in his controversial 2019 Newsnight interview that he had cut off contact with Epstein in 2010, newly surfaced emails disputed those claims. On Oct. 12, 2025, The Mail on Sunday and The Sun on Sunday concurrently published an email that the then-Duke of York allegedly wrote to Epstein on the day after the infamous picture of him with his arm around Giuffre was published by The Mail on Sunday in 2011.
In the email, Andrew reportedly wrote, "I'm just as concerned for you! Don't worry about me! It would seem we are in this together and will have to rise above it."
On Friday, Dec. 12, Democrats on the U.S. House Oversight Committee released new photos from a batch of 95,000 that they are continuing to pore through as evidence from the Jeffrey Epstein estate.
Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, were both included in the photos, with Andrew seen in one wearing formal attire as he lay across the laps of five women. Also pictured in the series of photographs were President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton, Woody Allen, Bill Gates, Steve Bannon, Richard Branson and more.
