Billie Lourd is keeping her mother's legacy alive — one movie at a time.
Nine years after her mom, Carrie Fisher, died at 60, Lourd is keeping her memory alive by introducing her own kids to the wonders of *Star Wars*. During a recent chat with E! News, the *Scream Queens *alum revealed how important — and overwhelming — it felt to watch the movies with son Kingston, 5, and daughter Jackson, 2.
"A year ago, I showed them [*Return of the*] *Jedi* for the first time, and they were a little bit confused," Lourd said of the kids she shares with husband Austen Rydell.** "**They're like, 'Wait, that's my grandma?' Like, 'No, that's Princess Leia, your grandma's Carrie, but that's Princess Leia.'"
Despite the confusion, her kids were locked into the movie: "They were just so enthralled," Lourd gushed. "I sat behind them and cried while they watched it."

She added that revisiting the film is "like the ultimate high-budget home movie. For me to get to have those things and to get to show them my mom in those movies is so special."
Lourd has lately been voicing her love for *Return of the Jedi* in honor of her recent team-up with LucasFilm, on an Endor-inspired shoot for the next Columbia and *Star Wars *collection. The project saw her don some of her mother's famous outfits and recreate iconic moments from the third film in the original* Star Wars* trilogy.
"Princess Leia, the layered warrior woman with strength beyond her gender that my mother created, truly stands the test of time and informs my strength as a woman and a mother every day," Lourd told StarWars.com, while discussing the campaign.
One sweet moment saw her recreate Leia's adorable Ewok moment with one of her kids, decked out in a fluffy Ewok fleece.
"The Leia Ewok scene in *Return of the Jedi* is one of my favorite scenes of all time so the minute I saw the Ewok onesie, I screamed like a 3-year-old," she shared. "Then my actual 3-year-old put it on and I screamed even louder… The moment she put it on she had the biggest smile on her face."
Lourd also revealed that during the shoot, she kept a memento of Fisher's very close.

"My mother wore this incredible ring that looks like it glows from the inside out in the last years of her life and whenever I am doing something that reminds me of her or feels important I like to wear it," she shared. "When I have it on and look down at it, I feel like she is with me in some way."
She added, "In the Redwoods, her presence truly felt ever present every time I looked up at the trees or looked down at the ring on my finger."

Earlier this year, Lourd gave fans a peek at an emotional family moment, sharing a touching photo of her kids watching Fisher in *ROTJ*.
"May the Fourth be with you," she cheekily captioned the snap, a play on the common Jedi saying "May the Force be with you" and a reference to the fact that May 4th has become known as Star Wars Day,

Fisher, who died in 2016, became a pop culture icon due to her memorable role as Princess Leia Organa in the original trilogy of *Star Wars *films. When the franchise was revived with 2015's *Star Wars: The Force Awakens*, not only did Fisher reprise her role as Leia, she turned it into a family affair: Lourde joined the sci-fi franchise as a member of the Resistance, Lieutenant Connix. After Fisher passed, footage filmed before her death was used in 2017's *Star Wars: The Last Jedi*, and archival footage of Fisher was repurposed for 2019's *Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker*. Lourd returned for both films, a decision she has later explained was painful but felt very necessary.

Prior to the film hitting theaters, Lourd wrote an essay for *Time*, opening up about the emotional experience of making a *Star Wars* movie without her mom.
She wrote, "I knew it would be one of the most painful, difficult things I would ever do, but I said yes for her — for my mom," she said. "For Leia. For everyone Leia means so much to. For everyone Leia gives strength to."**
