Natasha Lyonne swears the story of Nadia and Alan isn't over just yet.
It's been three years since season 2 of Russian Doll, starring Lyonne and Charlie Barnett, wrapped on Netflix, but fans haven't lost faith that the timey-wimey mystery series will return for the final chapter of a story originally pitched as three seasons. And Lyonne has been right there with them.
"I'm determined to do it [David] Lynch–style — Fire Walk With Me and then Twin Peaks: The Return," said Lyonne, who created the dramedy with Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler and also served as an executive producer, a director, and a showrunner for it, in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm determined to follow that model."

While Lyonne couldn't make any guarantees about when things will come together, she promised that she's working on a script for Russian Doll season 3.
"I can't tell you when I'm going to hit up Netflix. But it's incoming, it's in process," the Poker Face star told the outlet. "I get to it between other deadlines. I'm on deadline for a lot of drafts. I also owe a memoir at some point. But it's on my desktop. It's in final draft."
She acknowledged that she'd have to "go in and pitch it" to the streamer after the sizable gap between seasons, but she really wants to make it work, saying, "We'll see if they let me get away with it."
"But I don't know if that will be in two years, 10, or 20, or 35," she clarified. "If I can upload my consciousness into the cloud while retaining my own data dignity and not having a hive mind, that would be ideal. As you know, I've been quite public about wanting to be a brain in a jar for some time."

Brain in jars notwithstanding, Lyonne has already shared ideas of how she'd like to continue the time-loop shenanigans of Russian Doll.
"I've been incredibly open about my desires to become a cyborg," she told Entertainment Weekly in our 2022 cover story ahead of the series' season 2 premiere, "and I would love nothing more than to have a half-silver face with a red eye and in season 3 just be walking around with my robot neck and stuff. Just imagine how great that would be."
Her costar Barnett added that he knew Headland, Poehler, and Lyonne had "something planned for the future," even if he wasn't sure what it was yet.
"I know that that plan may be chipped and edited and reversed and maneuvered all over the place, but I know that there's something there," he told EW. "If [the first] season was about death, to a certain extent, the second season is about life, what could the next season be about? Is it about choices? Is it about, I don't know, expanding onto a different plane even? Are we going to be aliens?"

The actor threw out other ideas for the follow-up, including a trip into purgatory or a Dante's Inferno–type hell, joking that "actors and lawyers are together on the very bottom" in the underworld scenario.
Here's hoping we don't have to wait 35 years to see what Lyonne & Co. come up with.
