Venus revealed the three things she considered before saying "I do" to Preti
Venus Williams follows her own advice.
The tennis star, 45, tied the knot with Andrea Preti, 37, last year in multi-day celebrations in Italy and Florida. The morning of their Palm Beach ceremony in December, Venus and Preti sat down with Serena Williams, 44, to chat about their wedding and choosing partnership on their own terms.
For Venus, there were three "big" things she considered before determining whether or not Preti was the one. She noted that when people say "I do," they not only marry their partner, but also marry into their family, so there are several things to contemplate when looking at the bigger picture.

"You marry [one's] family. That's why I always tell people, when you get married and you're thinking about a relationship for eternity. It's about good family, good values, has a job," Venus said during the latest episode of her and Serena's podcast, Stockton Street. "People have to work, so if they don't work, it could present a problem, depending on your situation. But those are the three most important things."
She added, "Of course, attraction has to be there, but you can be attracted to someone because of their family, their values, and because they take care of themselves."
Venus encouraged listeners to follow her advice and pointed out that if they were to marry into a "chaotic and tough family," then they would be negatively impacted. Refusal to work could also add "a lot of pressure" and "stress" to a marriage.
Elsewhere on the podcast, Serena — who attended her sister's wedding with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and daughters, Adira, 2, and Olympia, 8 — asked Preti how he felt about being married, to which he said it was "a dream come true."
"Marrying this beautiful soul and sweetheart is the most amazing thing that could happen in my life," Preti said while smiling at Venus, who was seated next to him.
He continued to Venus and Serena, "Your family is incredible, girls. You make me feel like, from the first time, part of it. A new brother. I always felt safe with all of you girls. With Isha, [Yetunde], [Lyndrea], and after also being with your mom, she treats me like a son. So it's very easy to stay around you girls, and around the kids ... This is what I've always wanted from my family and what I was wishing for."

After the wedding news broke in December, Serena congratulated her sister in a sweet tribute on Instagram.
"My sister's keeper. Venus, where do I even begin?" she wrote alongside several wedding photos. "From the backyard courts to the biggest stages in the world, you've always led with grace, strength, and a heart bigger than any trophy. Watching you step into this next chapter surrounded by love felt like watching the sun rise…steady, powerful, and full of promise."
She continued, "You've been my built-in best friend, my protector, my teacher, and my reminder to always walk in purpose. Seeing you this happy, this loved, this radiant… it means everything to me. To love, to partnership, to laughter, and to a lifetime of choosing each other every single day. I couldn't be prouder to stand beside you, not just today, but always."
